Artist's Statement
The illustration I made is for my art project, it's primary topic is "Shoe as a portrait" this piece was inspired by a traditional wear that is associated with Filipino culture. It is often worn by Filipina women also called as "Filipiniana". The title "Dorothea" is the name of the woman in this illustration.
As for her expression I chose the contrasts with the background emphasizing that her true self is through the arts of shoe making. Than compared to what her family and society of that time think of Dorothea - as a mere housewife. She wishes to embrace her love of the art of shoe making. But could not express it fully.
